The New Singapore Botanic Garden

Do you know that Singapore will have a new botanic garden? the second botanic garden!! how cool is that ... actually they don't call it the new botanic garden or the Botanic garden Junior,  but Singapore will call it

Gardens by the Bay

The 54-hectare (approximately 72 soccer fields) garden in Marina South will be a colourful and vibrant heart of our Garden City featuring floral displays and tropical blooms and foliage. Its recreational amenities include an outdoor concert and events arena, and a flower fairground that will be home to the Singapore Garden Festival. The unique feature of this garden will be a cool conservatory complex which will allow visitors to enjoy flowers from around the world in a cool environment.
Conservatory Complex
Two conservatories (a cool dry and a cool moist) covering more than 2 hectares (about 3 soccer fields) will showcase Mediterranean, Tropical Montane and temperate annual plants and flowering species.  They will also provide a flexible flower themed venue for events and exhibitions.

Super Trees
Clusters of supertrees ranging in height from 25 metres to 50 metres will be iconic and "wow" structures with several functions: as unique, vertical tropical gardens; as the engine room for the conservatory environmental systems; as receptacles to collect rainwater, to provide shade, to be lit up at night and to house an exclusive bar or F&B outlet.
Some of the supertrees will also be connected by aerial walkways.

Horticultural Show Gardens
These gardens will showcase the best of tropical horticulture and garden artistry. There are 2 collections, namely the Heritage Gardens and the World of Plants, which centred on the subjects "Plants and People" and "Plants and Planet".  Together with mass flowering and coloured foliage landscape, they will form a spectacle of colour, texture and fragrance within the Gardens, providing a mesmerising experience for visitors.

Heritage Gardens:

This is  a collection of gardens that reflects the history and culture of Singapore's 3 main ethnic groups, as well as the city-state's colonial heritage.

- The Malay Garden tells the story of life in a traditional "kampong" (village).
- The Indian Garden's layout echoes a traditional illustrated flower motif.
- The Chinese Garden reflects the role of gardens in Chinese culture as places of inspiration for writers, poets and artists, through seclusion and tranquility.
- The Colonial Garden tells the story of plants as "Engines of Empire" - lucrative crops, spices and plants that formed important trade routes between the East and the West.

The World of Plants:

The second collection of gardens are based on the theme "plants and planet" and showcase the biodiversity of plant life on our planet.

When is the completion of the Singapore new Botanic Garden?
okay ... stop calling that ... call it Gardens by the bay ~

Site preparation works commenced in April 2007 and construction of first phase of the Gardens is in progress and estimated to complete in 2011.

I can't wait to go to the new botanic garden .. I mean the Gardens by the bay, I really need to get used to it. the one that I look forward is the the SUPER TREE GARDEN !!! Can you imagine how the bring the super tree?  I know how ... the cut the tree from Amazon Jungle.... shipment comes from Amazon ... through DHL or Fedex ... with international priority shipment!! can't imagine what's the cost ...

Let me know (really!) if you have any information on how they will bring the super tree..

pictures and info taken from www.gardensbythebay.org.sg
  1. The supertrees are not life trees. They are trees made of concrete and steel to mimic real trees. These supertrees are gigantic ranging from 25m all the way to one that is 50m tall! How cool is that?!

  2. it's not a life tree? I thought it was a real tree .... well it's cool but isn't it sad by putting human made tree in a garden

  3. I don't think it's that bad. They are already having many real trees that will be special and unique. These supertrees are meant to showcase vertical greenery as well as to provide shade against the cruel heat of the day. Kinda cool and ingenious don't you think?

  4. yeah it's cool but I prefer organic :p

btw where do you get this information?
