Why shop online? and the tips for shopping online

Are you thinking buying something online? through Amazon or any other online merchant?
other than movie tickets why don't you try to shop online next time when you want to buy something, who knows you can fetch a better deal!

Well you should try it ... I bought a flash trigger for S$32 where in Singapore selling for S$45+ in the shop...
I bought a screen protector from apple for S$25 where in Singapore selling for S$30 +

Dont afraid there's a first time for everything. Look around and be creative ... this apply if you are not rushing and don't mind about delivery time.

    Some tips:

    1. Be vigilant! hehe (sounds like mrt advertisement) Always look for a trusted online shop. such as amazon, etc ... how do you know? look at the website ... if the website seems ugly (sorry) and fishy better don't go for it and look for forum where people have bought something from it(do a search ... in google) - look for trusted sign like TrustE and etc

    2. Use Paypal if possible, paypal offer you a second layer protection (I don't like give my credi card to online shop so if possible I'll use paypal) and Paypal comes with purchase protection ... click here to read more.
and when you checkout make sure the lock sign-SSL (security sign is displayed on your web browser)

    3. There's a list of item prohibited to be sent to Singapore such as battery, liquid, etc - read it first!

    4. Don't only look at the price of your item but also calculate the shipping fee (usually after you checkout they will give you the shipping fee which can cost you 10 USD or more ... ) you can look for free shipping as well.
if the price include the shipping fee and the difference is only +- S$5, in my opinion just buy it here ... not worth the time and effort.

    5. Put your office as your mailing address, they usually send it to you during the business days.

    6. Check other details such as warranty, return policy, handling, etc

    7. Don't throw away your email notification for the purchase / delivery.. for proof in the future just in case

That's all that I can think off ... well the most important thing is to protect your personal info and your credit card!

I'll post again if I have anything to add.

Coming soon .... some of the online shop that you can trust

iPhone Case Switcheasy Capsule Rebel M and Torrent Review

For iPhone lover ... those who don't have you can skip this post .... if not you will end up getting one ... you have been warned.

I've been seeing couple of iPhone casing, but most of them is expensive... I just can't figure it out why a plastic can cost that much ... anyway ...

I found this two casing that's quite cool (in my opinion) have a alien look. Switcheasy Capsule Rebel M (manice) and Switcheasy Torrent (A new product, just launched)

The case is produced by switcheasy (you can go to their website to look for more iPhone Case)

I was drawn my the alien look first time by this casing when I saw it at Funan (Challenger Funan) but I just don't bother it because the price was S$49.9 which made me re-think again later on because mostly casing with a brand is around S$29 - S$69.

Anyway here is the alien look casing

Let me know if you are going to give me this switcheasy capsule rebel M for birthday or a Christmas present before I go and buy it (I'm not joking ... really serious about this one ... hehe anyone?)

you can see the capsule rebel m review below

And now the new case from Switcheasy... the Torrent.... I would love to have this one as well ... it's look slim and professional ... looks like Ferrari ...

Here is the video review of switcheasy torrent (it's still new so only a preview... i'll update this post once I've got the review)

Alright the best thing I like about the switcheasy it that they give the protector for the 3.5mm jack and the iPhone connector not only one each but two each!

I guess this case cost you a bomb because of the polycarbonate that they use, claim it a marketing gimmick - but it's better than those expensive casing using common plastic melted from recycle bin - just joking don't take it seriously okay :)

We have utilized brand new materials and radical design methods to protect your iPhone. Introducing UltraFrame™ hard protection system, a unique cover-all hard shell exo-skeleton frame made with Lexan® polycarbonate protecting all the important parts of your iPhone 3G / 3GS that may be prone to impact. In addition, we have utilized a special new material called ADSP (Adaptive Dynamic Soft Polymer) underneath the frame to protect the delicate surface of your iPhone 3G / 3GS. Your iPhone 3G / 3GS needs some hard core TLC (Tender, Loving Care) to protect it, In order to protect your phone, we have utilized a brand new material for the delicate protection needs of your iPhone 3G / 3GS. Introducing ADSP, a new polymer which is hip huggin' soft but yet tough enough to divert shock for your everyday needs. ADSP is also very resistant to discoloration and soiling from day to day use. It's the best material ever used in a hybrid case.

New Year Wishing ball / sphere at Esplanade / Marina Bay 2009

Dont know where to go this weekend? try to go to Esplanade or Marina Bay

Why don't pour out your creativity on a wishing ball or actually we should called it a Spehere.

I went there last night at Esplanade / Marina Bay, believe me that the ball is bigger than in the picture... you need quite an effort to finish it .. nicely hehe.

Sorry for the very underexposed picture, it was at night and I don't bring my camera along :(

Some tips: Bring your New year white big ball / sphere to the air con room (the concourse) outside is very hot and stuffy.

Markers are provided! If you want to color it ..... bring your own yeah

New experience spice up your life! so dont be lazy .... it will be more meaningful if you go with your love one :)

If you dont have anyone yet, it's the time now to bring someone to decorate this new year wishing ball / sphere hehe.

    SIGNIFICANCE OF THE WISHING SPHERES
Make Your Wish for the New Year

Each wishing sphere represents a hope, a belief that the New Year will bring new possibilities and a brighter tomorrow.

Pen your New Year wishes on these wishing spheres throughout December at wishing stations located around Singapore throughout December.

Then head down to Marina Bay and see how 20,000 wishing spheres, filled with the
wishes of all Singaporeans, become part of a visual arts installation in Marina Bay
    – the Bay of hope and light.

Even though there's a lot of wishing station ... I recommend the Esplanade for the feeling of Christmas!!

One Red Paper Clip to House - Unique and Interesting trade story

This is a interesting and unique story about a person who want to trade one red paper clip to a house

A 26-year-old Montreal man appears to have succeeded in his quest to barter a single, red paper-clip all the way up to a house.

It took almost a year and 14 trades, but Kyle MacDonald has been offered a two-storey farmhouse in Kipling, Sask., for a paid role in a movie.

MacDonald began his quest last summer when he decided he wanted to live in a house. He didn't have a job, so instead of posting a resumé, he looked at a red paper-clip on his desk and decided to trade it on an internet website.

He got a response almost immediately — from a pair of young women in Vancouver who offered to trade him a pen that looks like a fish.

MacDonald then bartered the fish pen for a handmade doorknob from a potter in Seattle.

In Massachusetts, MacDonald traded the doorknob for a camp stove. He traded the stove to a U.S. marine sergeant in California for a 100-watt generator.

In Queens, N.Y., he exchanged the generator for the "instant party kit" — an empty keg and an illuminated Budweiser beer sign.

MacDonald then traded the keg and sign for a Bombardier snowmobile, courtesy of a Montreal radio host.
He bartered all the way up to an afternoon with rock star Alice Cooper, a KISS snow globe and finally a paid role in a Corbin Bernsen movie called Donna on Demand.

"Now, I'm sure the first question on your mind is, "Why would Corbin Bernsen trade a role in a film for a snow globe? A KISS snow globe," MacDonald said on his website "one red paper-clip."

"Well, Corbin happens to be arguably one of the biggest snow globe collectors on the planet."

Now, the town of Kipling, Sask., located about two hours east of Regina with a population of 1,100, has offered MacDonald a farmhouse in exchange for the role in the movie.

MacDonald and his girlfriend will fly to the town next Wednesday.

"We are going to show them the house, give them the keys to the house and give them the key to the town and just have some fun," said Pat Jackson, mayor of Kipling.

The town is going to hold a competition for the movie role.

MacDonald said: "There's people all over the world that are saying that they have paper-clips clipped to the top of their computer, or on their desk or on their shirt, and it proves that anything is possible and I think to a certain degree it's true."

MacDonald, who has attracted international media in his quest, said the journey has turned out to be more exciting than the goal.

"This is not the end. This may be the end of this segment of the story, but this story will go on. "

Tortoise And Hare New Story (Turtle and Rabbit Story)

We all familiar with this story isn't it? let me present you with the extended version (source unknown)

Once upon a time a tortoise and a hare had an argument about who was faster. They decided to settle the argument with a race. The tortoise and hare both agreed on a route and started off the race.

The hare shot ahead and ran briskly for some time. Then seeing that he was far ahead of the tortoise, he thought he'd sit under a tree for some time and relax before continuing the race. He sat under the tree and soon fell asleep.

The tortoise plodding on overtook him and soon finished the race, emerging as the undisputed champ. The hare woke up and realised that he'd lost the race.

The moral of the story is that slow and steady wins the race. This is the version of the story that we've all grown up with.

The hare was disappointed at losing the race and he did some soul-searching. He realised that he'd lost the race only because he had been overconfident, careless and lax. If he had not taken things for granted, there's no way the tortoise could have beaten him. So he challenged the tortoise to another race. The tortoise agreed.

This time, the hare went all out and ran without stopping from start to finish. He won by several miles.

The moral of the story? Fast and consistent will always beat the slow and steady.
It's good to be slow and steady; but it's better to be fast and reliable.

The tortoise did some thinking this time, and realised that there's no way he can beat the hare in a race the way it was currently formatted. He thought for a while, and then challenged the hare to another race, but on a slightly different route. The hare agreed.

The tortoise and hare started off. In keeping with his self-made commitment to be consistently fast, the hare took off and ran at top speed until he came to a broad river. The finishing line was a couple of kilometres on the other side of the river.

The hare sat there wondering what to do. In the meantime the tortoise trundled along, got into the river, swam to the opposite bank, continued walking and finished the race.

The moral of the story? First identify your core competency and then change the playing field to suit your core competency.

The tortoise and hare, by this time, had become pretty good friends and they did some thinking together. Both realised that the last race could have been run much better. So the tortoise and hare decided to do the last race again, but to run as a team this time.

They started off, and this time the hare carried the tortoise till the riverbank. There, the tortoise took over and swam across with the hare on his back. On the opposite bank, the hare again carried the tortoise and they reached the finishing line together. Both the tortoise and hare felt a greater sense of satisfaction than they'd felt earlier.

The moral of the story? It's good to be individually brilliant and to have strong core competencies; but unless you're able to work in a team and harness each other's core competencies, you'll always perform below par because there will always be situations at which you'll do poorly and someone else does well.

Singtel Singapore has a great value added service for unlimited music donwload for iFlexi plan, the question is that ... how about the existing user, do we get the same benefit as the new customer? the advertisement in the newspaper said that iflexi value come with extra 12 GB now + amped unlimited music download but the fine print only stated that the data and voice call upgrade not the amped.

    500MB
    1GB
    2GB
Now comes with FREE UNLIMITED data for music browsing and downloads
at up to 7.2Mbps download speed

I've called singtel and here is the response

    1st call

in the nutshell he said that because im existing customer I can get 50% off the AMped subscription .... I said that it should come free and it did stated in news it's free

AMPed is also available at no additional cost on Broadband on Mobile (200MB) value-added service or SingTel’s 3G Flexi plans. All plans come with bundled data for Internet surfing and unlimited data for AMPed music browsing and downloads. singtel news

Then i was put on hold, then the customer service said that it's free but with 200 MB limit for internet and download ... getting confuse here and asking him that maybe he is refering to broadband on mobile while mine is iflexi plan.

he still insisted that it's 200 MB limit, then I ask him in that case how I 'm able to check my data usage of AMped? he said that can go to singtel.com/bbmobile .. i did that and go to existing customer enter your ic and phone number .. which at that time im not able to log in ... but he said that im suppose to see my data usage there ... (i've just checked and I only see my iflexi data usage) he then said send a *(some number) which i forget but nothing comes out.

if you are getting confuse that's fine ... because it's confusing ..

He said he will call me back and check ...

I also check that is it true that miotv live is extended to 31 march 2010 he said yes
"is my plan as well or only new user" .. and he said only new user...

feeling unsitisfied with the answer I try to browse around to see some info, I know in some forum some called and said that it's free for existing user but i just one a fine print of that ...

    and i found this one

Searched for 'SingTel AMPed' at Apple App Store to download for free.
iFlexi customers can upgrade to iFlexi AMPed plan for FREE.
Get AMPed for free with your iFlexi AMPed plan and Broadband on Mobile AMPed plan.
Dial *AMPed (*26733) on your mobile to sign up for Broadband on Mobile AMPed

    2nd call
"Hi I want to upgrade my existing iflexi value to iflexi value amped"
"hold on sir, I will send out your request"
"I've sent the request and it will be done in 1 day"
    "is it free"
    "yes sir, it's free"

So what you are waiting for ? go and activated your AMped

Shortcut to Singtel Hotline to upgrade your iflexi to iflexi amped
    1. Call 1688
    2. Press 1 for english
    3. Enter your phone number
    4. Press option 4
    5. Press option 0 to speak to customer service

Some feedback if I would like to give is that Singtel need to communicate well between the marketing and its customer service hotline, we as the customer often confuse by different answer and standard that's give by the hotline. They cannot be blamed about this but sure improvement has to be made.

Singtel need to improve some of the sop and flow of information so that everyone from the marketing, hotline, shops, etc.

StarHub and M1 have announced that they will start selling iPhones on Wednesday.
This comes just five months after SingTel became the first to introduce the new and improved iPhone 3G-S.
Just what does this mean for consumers?

    The Newsdesk reports.
Now, it will be easier for consumers to get hold of an iPhone. StarHub and M1 are launching it in time for Christmas. This puts an end to the one year or so monopoly that SingTel had on the product in Singapore.

StarHub says tens of thousands of customers have pre-registered for the iPhone since the 16th of November. They'll be given priority when it launches on Wednesday.

Just like Singtel when it first introduced the iPhone in September last year, both StarHub and M1 are offering four new plans, each tailored for subscribers who take up the iPhones with a two-year contract.

Depending on the model and plan chosen, StarHub customers will get the phone for free or pay up to six hundred and sixty eight dollars for it.

M1 customers pay between nothing and 658 dollars.
StarHub's iPhone plans begin at 38 dollars a month while the M1 iPhone plans start at 36 dollars.

Starhub's top end plan offers unlimited data traffic; the rest comes with 1 GB of data traffic.

This was lesser than M1's data bundle where its cheapest plan of 36 dollars a month came with 10 GB of data traffic. But hours later, Starhub announced that they will up the 1 GB of data traffic for the cheaper plans to 12.

Analysts say overall data charges are likely to fall and that the bundle from providers are going to get more generous.
Marc Einstein is from consulting firm Frost and Sullivan.

"The development is very interesting, because I think Singapore will certainly be the only country in the world where all of the mobile operators are offering the iPhone. And so I think what this really means is that we'll see more innovation in terms of the kind of plans that are offered, in terms of data usage packages , content etecetra. That will be the What also makes it interesting is that, last year we had the introduction of mobile number portability into Singapore and so what this means is that many people that maybe have an existing iPhone plan with SingTel, have the option of not changing to one but two other companies."

This could spark a price war.

Singtel already says it will announce its new revised iPhone plans within the next few days, which will be extended to new and existing customers.

Starhub says it expects to announce more innovative mobile ideas soon.
